A lot of the focus of this offseason for the Texas football program falls on how newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian will be able to build out his roster for the looming season. Sark was hired back on Jan. 2 to replace former Texas fourth-year head coach Tom Herman, which provided a good spark to the excitement of the fan base and the results on the recruiting trail.

Right out of the gates, though, Sark and the Longhorns found out the realities of volatility on the recruiting trail and roster attrition when a change of coaching regimes occur. Texas did pick up multiple huge blue chip commits for their 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes. But they also lost a commit from one of their more talented pieces last month in the 2022 class just as fast as they originally landed him.

Past transfer portal losses for Texas football

Four-star talented Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart decommitted last month, which led to a stall in results on the trail for a while for Sark compared to the rate at which he was adding pledges out of the gates. Texas also had a few key entrants into the NCAA Transfer Portal after Sark took over as head coach for Herman.

Losses and additions via the transfer portal played a big role in the Longhorns’ success, and failures at times, over the course of the last few years. The transfer portal can be a two-way street, and both Herman and Sark learned that fast.

Here’s a look at four past Texas transfers that have found a lot of success elsewhere of late.
