One of the most sour exits in recent memory for the Longhorns football program involved the former elite five-star recruit and California native wide receiver Bru McCoy. The 6-foot-3 and 220 pound promising wideout and product out of Mater Dei High School did play for the Longhorns for a little bit during the 2019 offseason.

At one point, it looked like the Longhorns would be able to sign both five-star wide receiver recruits Jordan Whittington and McCoy with their incoming 2019 class. But only Whittington would wind up sticking around on the Forty Acres. McCoy would wind up taking his talents back to join the original program he committed and signed with.

McCoy took his talents back to join head coach Clay Helton and the USC Trojans ahead of the start of the 2019 campaign, giving way to what would be an elite offense at times in the PAC-12 last year. Although McCoy would sit out the entirety of what would’ve been his true freshman campaign in 2019, he had a solid 2020 season.

During his first year playing for USC last fall, McCoy registered 21 catches for 236 receiving yards (11.2 yards per catch) and two touchdowns catches. He only got to see the field in bits and pieces of six games last fall, but he showed a lot of promise. McCoy and star quarterback Kedon Slovis are certainly a talented connection in the passing game to watch this coming season in the PAC-12.
