Texas Football: 4 disappointing blue chips ready to breakout in spring

Heading into spring ball this year, newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program were looking to settle in after an offseason full of change in its early stages. Sarkisian is implementing new schemes completely on both sides of the ball in spring camp, and he’s already had to deal with a long pause in contact drills due to COVID-19-related issues.

Yet, that shouldn’t stop Sark and the Longhorns from having a largely productive bout of spring ball in the former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator and Broyles Award winner’s first year on the Forty Acres. Sark needs to get as many valuable reps as he can to new faces that will be taking over in bigger roles on each side of the ball.

Texas did face an offseason full of roster attrition after a decent bit of volatility on the recruiting trail for their 2021 class that defined the end of the Tom Herman tenure with the program. But more stability than originally anticipated took hold for Sark and the Longhorns since he replaced Herman as the Texas head coach back on Jan. 2.

Sark’s potential stabilizing impact on Texas football this year

Since Sark did instill some stability on the recruiting trail since taking over now more than three months ago as Texas head coach, he might be able to do the same with former blue chip recruits that haven’t fulfilled their potential as of yet. Texas had a lot of problems with player development in the last few years, and it showed in their lack of first day NFL Draft picks in the last half-decade or so.

With all of this in mind, here’s a look at four former blue chip recruits that haven’t lived up to the hype thus far that Sark can help breakthrough in spring ball.
