Last week, newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program resumed their run in spring ball after roughly a week-long pause to contact drills due to COVID-19-related issues. Texas didn’t get much work in contact drills during their originally scheduled first two weeks of spring camp.

Sark and the Longhorns are back in action in spring camp for around three days now since the COVID-19 pause to contact drills concluded. Texas also has around three weeks until the spring football game arrives. The spring football game is set to kickoff on April 24, at 1 p.m. CT, at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

All of the change that has already taken place for the Longhorns so far this offseason are things that need to digest by getting actual reps to implement new ideas and schemes on both sides of the ball. Texas is breaking in their second coaching staff and scheme change on both sides of the ball in the last two offseasons.

What’s changing for Texas football this offseason?

The difference is that the head coach changed this offseason, whereas Tom Herman remained constant last year. Herman was replaced by Sark as head coach back on Jan. 2, which led to the hire of key assistants/coordinators like Pete Kwiatkowski and Kyle Flood.

Texas is also dealing with a lot of roster attrition this offseason that could impact them come this fall. New faces need to step up on both sides of the ball if the Longhorns are to find more success in the Big 12.

Here’s a look at three new potential starters for the Longhorns that are worth watching in spring ball.
