Texas Football: 3 underrated players shining in spring spotlight
Keondre Coburn, DT
What should be one of the most highly anticipated Longhorns players to watch come next fall is the former four-star recruit and the sizable 6-foot-2 and 350 pound redshirt junior defensive/nose tackle Keondre Coburn. Barring any injury issues this spring, Coburn could be in to take his game to new heights ahead of a critical junior campaign for his NFL Draft stock and the overall success of this defensive line.
While Angilau could be the anchor in the trenches on the offensive side of the ball for the Longhorns in spring ball, the new coaching staff should be able to count on the same from the fourth-year standout Coburn on defense. Coburn held that role in parts in the last two years, where he really started to produce at a high level.
New Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis has to be happy about the situation he has up the middle of his defensive line with Coburn anchoring things. What Coburn brings back with him this year is 51 career combined tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
Coburn has also shown an incredible level of consistency in his career date, with only four missed tackles over the course of three years, 30 stops, no penalties called against him, and 26 total quarterback pressures.
Set to be a true force to be reckoned with once again in 2021, Coburn is looking to establish himself as a star along the defensive line in the Big 12. He is also one of the most productive returning players in the front seven for the Longhorns this year.
