A good move for the new coaching staff on the Forty Acres helped to get the first offer out for the 2024 Texas football recruiting class on April 14. While it sounds like that recruiting class is way too far out into the future to think about at the moment, getting ahead on the trail is a great way to make waves for future classes by investing in young prospects so early on.

And the first offer for the Longhorns 2024 class went out to a prospect that has potentially elite talent. Currently unranked 5-foot-10 and 180 pound O’Dea athlete Jason Brown got the first offer from the Longhorns 2024 recruiting class and newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian.

It was announced on the Twitter timeline of the Seattle, WA, native Brown on April 13 that he had received his scholarship offer from the Longhorns. A good portion of the five schools on his offer sheet as of the night of April 14 came within the last few months.

It wasn’t all that long ago that Sark and the Longhorns made waves on the recruiting trail by being the first Big 12 program with a commit in their 2023 class. Texas landed a commitment from the elite five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens nearly two months ago to get their 2023 class off and running (no pun intended).

Texas got an early start on the recruiting trail for their 2023 class, and it paid dividends in the form of landing the commitment of the in-state product Owens. The same could be said with Sark and the Longhorns getting an early start on the recruiting trail for their 2024 class.

The primary recruiter for the Longhorns in pursuit of the commitment of Brown is the tenured running backs coach Stan Drayton. That’s a good recruiter for the Longhorns to have after him since the positional coach did so well on the trail the last few cycles.

Texas has landed multiple key blue chips at the running back position in the last few cycles. That list includes the likes of 2022 four-star Jaydon Blue, 2021 four-star Jonathon Brooks, and 2020 five-star Bijan Robinson.

Of the five schools on Brown’s growing offer sheet, all have come his way since the start of the month of March. The other four schools on his offer sheet are the USC Trojans, Nevada Wolfpack, Washington Huskies, and Utah Utes. Texas is the only school outside of PAC-12 country to send Brown an offer thus far.

The school that appears to have a serious early edge is Washington. The former employer of new Texas co-defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski currently has all three expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions leaning toward the Huskies over the rest of the competition.

The lone two programs around the college football landscape at the moment that hold commits in their 2024 recruiting classes are the Florida State Seminoles (two) and BYU Cougars (one). Texas at the moment is still trying to build on their one commit in the 2023 class and seven in the 2022 class.
