New York Giants

A team that really looks like it’s going to have to do well in the draft this year to keep moving their team in the right direction is the New York Giants out of the NFC East. The Giants didn’t do a great job drafting in the early rounds in the last few years. Offensive lineman Andrew Thomas and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is about the best they’ve done outside of star running back Saquon Barkley in the draft in the last three years.

Facing the Giants will be the obstacle of continuing to try to improve specifically on the defensive side of the ball. If this team feels like former Duke Blue Devils signal caller Daniel Jones is their quarterback of the future, then building up on the other side of the ball this offseason will be key. And that’s where drafting the former Longhorn stud linebacker Ossai can come into play.

The Giants did show some real signs of life last year on defense. They ranked in the top 12 in the NFL in total yards allowed and top 10 in total points allowed. What was also impressive was improving to rank in the top 10 in yards allowed per rushing attempt (4.1) last season.

Potentially the biggest need that the Giants do have in this year’s draft is adding depth at either linebacker or the edge rusher spot. Ossai would be able to join a group of linebackers/edge rushers that include Reggie Ragland, Blake Martinez, and Lorenzo Carter. But while the Giants have a lot of promise now at linebacker, they don’t have a lot of proven talent at the position.
