Multiple big-time college hoops players put their names in the transfer portal for the second time in their career, at least, this offseason. A weird 2020 calendar year in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic will cause a lot more roster attrition for most college hoops programs around the country this offseason than you will really ever see.

That seems to be exactly why the standout former Minnesota Golden Gophers and Pitt Panthers 6-foot-2 and 195 pound redshirt junior point guard Marcus Carr put his name in the portal for the second time in his career to date. Carr is also going to use the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA to his full advantage this offseason and try to find a great landing spot for his development.

Carr wound up playing in one season with Pitt a few years back and then spent the last two seasons with the Golden Gophers in Big Ten country. He wound up getting All-Big Ten honors last season for his efforts in the 29 games he played in. Last season, he averaged 19.4 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.1 blocks. And he shot 38.5 percent from the field, 31.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 79.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The defensive ability of Carr on the perimeter and his all-around game as the floor general on the offensive end of the floor have really come along over the course of the last two seasons. He went from being an underrated three-star recruit back during the 2017 cycle, coming out of the esteemed Montverde Academy, to becoming one of the better point guards in the Big Ten last season.
