At this point of this cycle, the 2022 Texas football recruiting class could be on the verge of something special. Texas had a truly special run on the recruiting trail for their 2022 and 2023 classes under the direction of newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian in the two months following his hire this offseason.

Sark and the Longhorns landed their first commitment of the 2023 class in the form of the elite five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens. And they added a lot of blue chip skill position talent to the 2022 class, which could pay dividends down the road.

But just as it seemed like Sark and the Longhorns were landing at least one commitment per week for their 2022 and 2023 classes, the results have slowed of late. The last commit that Texas landed for their 2022 or 2023 class came back on March 23 from three-star North Shore defensive tackle Kristopher Ross.

Could more pledges be on the way for Texas football recruiting?

More specifically, are more commitments just around the corner for the Longhorns 2022 and/or 2023 classes by the end of the month of April?

Texas surely still has a lot of momentum built up on the recruiting trail for these classes, and the writing is on the wall that something special could be ahead in the near future.

As of the late afternoon of April 16, the 2022 Texas recruiting class holds commitments from seven prospects. And according to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 9 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners.

With that in mind, here’s a look at three 2022 prospects that the Longhorns are gaining some ground with of late that are worth watching.
