Texas Basketball: 3 former Texas Tech transfers the Longhorns can pursue
The entire scoop of the Texas basketball program changed once now former sixth-year head coach Shaka Smart bolted from Austin to take the same job with the Marquette Golden Eagles in his home state of Wisconsin. The writing was on the wall for Smart on the Forty Acres following their disappointing end to last season. But the outlook of the program looks much brighter in the past couple of weeks.
After Smart left Austin to take the Marquette head coaching job to replace the departed Steve Wojciechowski back on March 26, it didn’t take Texas athletic director Chris del Conte too long to find his replacement. It felt like Texas got the head coaching hire they wanted, which became official back on April 1.
To start off this month, CDC got a great next head coaching hire for the basketball program. CDC snagged former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Chris Beard to replace Smart in the same role for the Longhorns. Beard really had a lot of change to his roster already with the Longhorns in less than three weeks following his hiring.
Busy offseason in the transfer portal for the Texas basketball program

Texas Tech also saw a number of entrants into the transfer portal since Beard left the program a few weeks back. There are now more than five players that were on the Texas Tech team last season that are now in the portal.
Here’s a look into three potential transfer portal additions that the Longhorns could look into among former Texas Tech players.
