I’ve mentioned plenty of times up to this point how much I think it would make sense for Beard and the Longhorns to go after the former Red Raiders and Georgetown Hoyas junior guard Mac McClung. This former underrated three-star recruit and All-Big 12 Team selection is one of the more high-profile names available in the portal at the moment too.

With how many transfer portal additions Beard had in his time with the Red Raiders in the last two years, there’s a chance he could get multiple second-time entrants this offseason. Both McClung and Santos-Silva have their names in the transfer portal for the second offseason in a row. And the Longhorns might be a good home for either one of these two former Red Raiders.

McClung is also a former All-Big East Freshman Team selection. He’s consistently improved his game, especially on offense, in the last few years. Likely his best season in his college career to date came with the Red Raiders last season.

In 29 games played with the Red Raiders last season, McClung averaged a team-leading 15.5 points per game, 2.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks. And he shot 41.9 percent from the field, 34.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 79.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Last season, McClung registered a career-best 5.6 box plus/minus rating, .169 win shares per 40 minutes, 3.7 total win shares, 53.9 true shooting percentage, and a 18.9 player efficiency rating.
