It won’t be easy in the slightest, but there is a possibility that Beard and the Longhorns could look into what it would take to flip the commitment/signing of the talented four-star hometown Westlake power forward KJ Adams. Head coach Bill Self and the Big 12 foe Kansas Jayhawks landed a commitment from Adams, and then signed him during the Early Signing Period in November 2020.

Texas did previously have commitments from two power forwards in their 2021 class. But they wound up losing the commitments of both four-star Brookfield Central product David Joplin and three-star Grace Christian School product Keeyan Itejere following the departure of Smart last month.

Now there is a big need to add more depth at the power forward position in either the 2021 or 2022 class. That rings especially true since the Longhorns are likely to lose their lone signee from the 2020 class, elite five-star power forward Greg Brown, to the 2021 NBA Draft.

Since both Texas and Texas Tech had offered Adams out of Westlake High School in Austin, TX, Beard moving to take the Longhorns job could get some interest back to the Forty Acres.

Texas and Texas Tech were two of more than a dozen schools on his offer sheet. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet were the Baylor Bears, Georgetown Hoyas, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, SMU Mustangs, TCU Horned Frogs, and Texas A&M Aggies.

Moreover, the Kansas commit Adams ranks as the nation’s No. 70 2021 high school prospect, No. 15 power forward, and No. 5 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 86 high school prospect, No. 19 power forward, and No. 5 prospect out of Texas.
