It’s never really surprising for a player like the former four-star recruit and junior power forward Kamaka Hepa to put his name in the transfer portal in the offseason when a complete change in coaching regime occurs. Hepa was a recruit of the former sixth-year Texas head coach Shaka Smart, thus he didn’t want to play for a different coaching regime on the Forty Acres.

Hepa actually didn’t get that much playing time over the course of the last two seasons with the Longhorns. Landing elite recruits in the frontcourt rotation, and maintaining depth with players like senior center Jericho Sims and sophomore breakthrough power forward Kai Jones, meant that Hepa’s playing time dipped in the last two seasons.

However, Hepa should still be a very highly sought-after player out of the transfer portal this offseason. He’s one of the more highly-rated recruits that currently sits in the transfer portal out of the BIg 12 and has some proven game experience under his belt from three years playing for Texas.

In just under 60 career games played with Texas over the course of three years, Hepa averaged 2.4 points per game, 1.6 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks. And he shot 35.1 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 70.6 percent from the free-throw line.
