Texas Football: 3 players dazzling ahead of the spring game
The spring football game is just a few days away for newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program as they prepare to get back in front of the fans at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium this coming weekend for the first time since last November. Texas had a lot of change enacted since the start of the offseason, and spring ball was a critical time for this new-look coaching staff.
Sark was originally hired with the Longhorns back on Jan. 2 to replace the former fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman. Following a season where the Longhorns went 7-3 (5-3 Big 12), with a dominant win in the Alamo Bowl over the Colorado Buffaloes back on Dec. 29, Herman was let go for the former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator and reigning Broyles Award winner Sark to head up this program.
Since Sark was hired back on Jan. 2, he’s assembled a solid coaching staff and worked past significant hurdles due to COVID-19-related issues in spring camp. That’s an ode to him, and we’ll be able to see how his preparation levels translate for Texas this fall.
Texas football getting back on the field in the spring game
While the Orange-White Game won’t be too telling when it’s all said and done of how particular players will fair this fall, it can show how the depth chart can stack up on both sides of the ball. It will also be an integral experience for any of the new additions to the program to get some form of game action this spring at DKR.
The spring football game for the Longhorns is set to kickoff at DKR on April 24 at 1 p.m. CT. It will be the first spring game for Texas since the 2019 offseason since last year’s festivities were canceled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With that in mind, here’s a look into three players that have dazzled in spring ball thus far that are worth watching in the spring game this weekend.
