Texas Football: 3 players dazzling ahead of the spring game
Roschon Johnson, RB
Texas is set to bring back a two-headed monster in their backfield this fall. This might actually be the best running back duo in the Big 12, and one of the best in the entire country this year, between sophomore stud and former five-star recruit Bijan Robinson and junior former converted quarterback Roschon Johnson.
And while expectations are through the roof for Robinson this year, coming off a huge last two games to his true freshman campaign last season, Johnson has fallen more under-the-radar. So far this offseason, Robinson has garnered a plethora of All-American and Heisman hype while Johnson was considered more of a support piece in the running back room.
Johnson is the more versatile and proven of the two running backs in game action so far. He’s contributed a lot to the Texas ground game over the course of the last two seasons. Johnson brings back more than 1,000 career rushing yards for the Longhorns this year (5.3 yards per carry), 13 rushing touchdowns, and just over 200 receiving yards, good for two touchdown catches.
Texas can spark their offense with the ground game first this fall, and then take the top off of opposing defenses with the deep passing game constructed by Sark. Johnson can play a critical role in the new installation of the Texas offensive scheme, as he’s done well in his showing in spring camp thus far.
