DeVante Jones, SG

There was once a time where the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers got an absolute gem find for themselves out of the transfer portal in the form of the former unrated 2017 shooting guard recruit DeVante Jones. No schools were listed to send a scholarship offer Jones’ way when he was coming out of high school back during the 2017 recruiting cycle.

At this point of his career, Jones is now gaining around from all over the college hoops landscape after putting his name in the transfer portal earlier this month. He’s got top-tier hoops programs like the Michigan Wolverines, Memphis Tigers, and the Longhorns amid the group of schools vying to land his services out of the portal this offseason.

If the Longhorns are able to land a commitment from Jones out of the portal this offseason, they would be getting a two-time All-Sun Belt Team selection and the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year in the mix. The 6-foot-1 and 200 pound junior guard Jones was one of the most underrated players on the national scene last season.

In 26 games played for the Chanticleers last season, the New Orleans, LA, native Jones averaged 19.3 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, a whopping 2.8 steals, and 0.2 blocks. And he shot 48.7 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 86.2 percent from the free-throw line.

That all amounted to Jones posting an insane career-best 28.9 player efficiency rating, 6.3 box plus/minus rating, .280 win shares per 40 minutes, and a 61.6 true shooting percentage.
