Texas Basketball: 3 new portal targets that could soon join the Longhorns
De’Vion Harmon, G
Although all three of the players on this list are realistic transfer portal targets for Beard and the Longhorns this offseason, the last one up here could be a pretty seamless fit. Former Oklahoma Sooners sophomore guard De’Vion Harmon could wind up on the Forty Acres, which would be a dramatic change of scenery from his previous stop of Norman.
The rival Sooners had a lot of roster attrition, just like the Longhorns this offseason. Both Oklahoma and Texas experienced a lot of roster and recruiting class turnover following near-complete changes in coaching regimes. Oklahoma lost longtime head coach Lon Kruger entering the offseason, and he was subsequently replaced by the former Loyola-Chicago head coach Porter Moser.
Harmon was one of the key players that the Sooners lost to the transfer portal this offseason. They also lost the likes of big man Brady Manek to the North Carolina Tar Heels and shooting guard Trey Phipps to Oral Roberts.
This former talented four-star recruit and 6-foot-2 and 200 pound Denton, TX, native was solid for the Sooners in just over two dozen games played last season. He averaged 12.9 points per game, 3.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and no blocks. And Harmon shot 47.0 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.2 percent from the free-throw line.
Texas did lose some guard depth this offseason. If Coleman winds up taking his talents to the next level this offseason, then another one will be down in the rotation ahead of next season. Texas also lost sophomore shooting guard Donovan Williams to the transfer portal earlier in the offseason.
