Texas Football: 3 crucial visitors Sark can win over at spring game
Maalik Murphy, QB
As the lone prospect on this list that already has his commitment with Sark and the Longhorns, the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy was a big-time get for this 2022 class. The Gardena, CA, native is now just getting to play in the biggest spotlight of his high school football career to date this spring. And he’s shining in the process.
This 6-foot-5 and 225 pound quarterback is ultra-elusive and is showing growth in his game it seems like each passing week. Texas has to be thrilled about what they are getting out of Murphy in their 2022 class to replace the lost commitment of Ewers.
Murphy is set to be on campus for the Longhorns this weekend for the spring game, which means he could do some recruiting himself for their 2022 and 2023 class. It’s big to get one of the most highly touted prospects in their 2022 class on the Forty Acres this weekend to build up the excitement for what’s to come with this group.
Texas was one of more than 30 schools on Murphy’s offer sheet before he announced his commitment to the program more than two months ago. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet are Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas A&M, and USC.
Moreover, Murphy ranks as the nation’s No. 74 2022 high school prospect, No. 5 pro-style quarterback, and No. 8 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 69 high school prospect, No. 6 pro-style quarterback, and No. 8 prospect out of California.
