Mostly unfamiliar faces are going to have to step up on both sides of the ball for the Texas football program this offseason. As we’re nearing the completion of spring camp this week, newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian is about to mark off the first major phase of this offseason with this Texas program. Texas is now just one day away from the kickoff of their spring football game, which means a new opportunity for many of these potential new starters for this team to step up.

On the defensive side of the ball, new co-defensive coordinators Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate are trying to implement a new scheme too. For the second year in a row, the Longhorns are breaking in at least one new defensive coordinator. And with that comes a new system.

Texas is making a lot of systematic transitions on both sides of the ball this offseason, which means younger players such as the former talented four-star recruit and 6-foot-3 and 240 pound defensive end Jordon Thomas. Although Texas did not get the 2021 signee and former Memorial High School strong-side defensive end Thomas to campus as an early enrollee this spring, he will bring a lot of excitement to the Forty Acres this fall.

The expectation is still to be that Thomas will arrive on the Forty Acres for summer workouts. That will be the first real chance for Thomas to make an impression on the coaching staff and work his way up the depth chart early on.

However, a piece from 247Sports showed off the latest scouting report and highlights for Thomas this week. It shows a version of Thomas that had a massive senior campaign at Memorial and one that will have a lot of promise for Sark and the Longhorns.

Thomas isn’t likely to get a starting role right out of the gates, but he could get some early playing time this fall. Texas did lose a decent amount of defensive line and linebacker talent to the NFL Draft NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason.

Moreover, Thomas ranked as the nation’s No. 292 2021 high school prospect, No. 18 strong-side defensive end, and No. 45 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked him as the No. 19 strong-side defensive end and No. 41 prospect out of Texas.
