Texas Basketball: 5 transfer portal targets from rival schools
The activity in the NCAA Transfer Portal looks to continue in the near future for new head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program at this point of the offseason. Texas remained one of the most active teams in the transfer portal, and rightly so, in the early stages of the college hoops offseason thus far.
Since the former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Beard was hired to replace former Texas head coach Shaka Smart back on April 1, this program already got three huge commitments/signings out of the transfer portal.
If you thought the transfer portal had a huge impact on the college football landscape, and more specifically for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns this offseason, then the college hoops transfer market is blowing that impression out of the water. There is an average of more than four players entering the transfer portal per Division I college hoops team this offseason.
And we’re not even one month past the Baylor Bears beating the Gonzaga Bulldogs to win the National Championship to round out the 2020-21 campaign.
Texas basketball remaining busy in the transfer portal
A big looming storyline for the Longhorns basketball program throughout the offseason will remain what Beard does in the transfer portal. Texas looks to be far from done with pulling talent out of the transfer portal at this point. Despite that, they’ve already landed commitments from the former Kentucky Wildcats freshman guard Devin Askew, junior Utah Utes forward Timmy Allen, and junior Creighton Blue Jays forward Christian Bishop.
The latest addition out of the portal for the Longhorns was Bishop, and more could be on the way in the very near future. Who could be next for the Longhorns out of the portal this offseason?
Here’s a look at five names that could be worth watching for the Longhorns out of the transfer portal this offseason from rival schools that could land on the Forty Acres.
