Maybe the player in the transfer portal at this moment from any major conference school that has the most potential of them all is the former elite five-star recruit and freshman former Kansas Jayhawks shooting guard Bryce Thompson. The Tulsa, OK, native and 6-foot-5 and 190 pound uber-promising talent is a top-tier name to watch out of the portal this offseason.

Head coach Bill Self did not get the news he wanted concerning the potential future NBA standout Thompson this offseason. Thompson might be the biggest loss that the Jayhawks had to the portal so far this year. Although he was inconsistent for the Jayhawks throughout most of his true freshman campaign last year, he did improve down the stretch. He was also set to play a critical role for the Jayhawks next season.

Texas was also one of the more than 15 schools that sent Thompson a scholarship offer coming out of Booker T. Washington High School during the 2020 recruiting cycle. He ranked as the nation’s No. 21 2020 high school prospect, No. 4 combo guard, and the top overall prospect out of Oklahoma (247Sports Composite).

Last season with the Jayhawks, Thompson played in 20 games (four of which he started in), and he averaged around 17 minutes on the floor per game. He averaged 4.6 points per game, 1.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks. And Thompson shot 35.3 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 64.7 percent from the free-throw line.

If Texas is able to get both Askew and Thompson to the Forty Acres, then they might be landing the two guards with the most raw talent out of the portal so far this offseason.
