The first blue chip commit that plays along the front seven could be just around the corner for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class. Texas does have two important pieces in their 2022 class between the three-star North Shore defensive tackle Kristopher Ross and three-star Arlington-Martin inside linebacker Trevell Johnson.

But what newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and co-defensive coordinators Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate are still missing at this point in time for the 2022 class is a blue chp commit to continue building the foundation for this group. Sark and the Longhorns might soon end their month-long commitment drought on the recruiting trail, though, in the very near future.

It does appear that the talented four-star Brophy College 6-foot-4 and 255 pound strong-side defensive end Zac Swanson is still trending to land with Sark and the Longhorns. But there are now more indicators that the Longhorns could soon have their next commitment in Swanson.

A report from Mike Roach of Horns247 on April 23 (paid content) shows that the Longhorns could be just hours or days away from landing their next commitment in the 2022 class. Texas has been in the thick of the running to land a commitment from Swanson for a good while now. That progress could soon pay dividends for their 2022 class.

Texas football could soon get 4-Star DE Zac Swanson?

Texas did catch an immediate spark on the recruiting trail after the original Jan. 2 hire of Sark to replace the former head coach Tom Herman for this program. February especially was good to the Longhorns on the recruiting trail.

But the results largely slowed down for the last month or so. Texas landed one commitment for both their 2022 and 2023 classes in the past six weeks.

What Swanson would bring to the table for the Longhorns is the nation’s No. 360 2022 high school prospect, No. 24 strong-side defensive end, and No. 6 prospect out of Arizona (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 21 strong-side defensive end and No. 5 prospect out of Arizona.

Texas is now one of more than 15 schools that have offered Swanson. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet include the Oregon Ducks, Kentucky Wildcats, USC Trojans, Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, Auburn Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, Iowa State Cyclones, Oklahoma Sooners, and UCLA Bruins.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions do currently have all three expert picks going to the Longhorns over the rest of the field. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers picking Swanson’s commitment to land with Texas when it’s all said and done.

Texas could use a boost to the defensive side of the ball in their 2022 class. And delivering on another highly touted out-of-state product would be huge for Kwiatkowski, Choate, and the Longhorns to get things moving back in the right direction.
