Texas Football: Bijan Robinson hurt his ankle in spring game
On the afternoon of April 24, newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian got his Texas football team out on the field at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for some sort of game action for the first time since last November. Texas has a pretty promising outlook at this point for next season, especially with some of the skill position talent they’re bringing back in 2021.
One of the most promising players for Sark and the Longhorns, that was fun to see in the spring football game on April 24, is star sophomore running back Bijan Robinson. The former elite five-star recruit and Tucson, AZ, native Robinson had a solid finish to his true freshman campaign. He was one of the best running backs in all of college football at the end of last season.
Moreover, Robinson had some big moments in the annual Orange-White Game on April 24 at DKR. He got in the endzone for an early six-yard touchdown run and had a few other highlighting runs on the day. But there was also some potentially bad news that emerged for Robinson this weekend during the spring game.
Bijan Robinson dealing with soreness for Texas football
Robinson apparently told reporters after the spring game this weekend that he had a sore ankle that did hamper him a little bit. The good news in this regard is that Robinson will have some time to rest up this offseason. We’re still a good ways out from the start of summer workouts and fall camp, so he can get right in the coming weeks.
Texas needs Robinson to be healthy this fall if they are in fact going to have one of the best offenses not only in the Big 12 but the entire country. Robinson and junior running back Roschon Johnson could be one of the nation’s best duo out of the backfield, but each obviously has to stay healthy for that to happen.
Despite a lot of the carries going to junior running back Keaontay Ingram early last season, Robinson and Johnson still shouldered much of the load in 2020. Texas got a combined 1,368 total yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns from Robinson and Johnson last year. Robinson himself was one of the nation’s most efficient running backs in the last few games of 2020.
Texas finished up last season with a record of 7-3 (5-3 Big 12) under the direction of former head coach Tom Herman. Back on Jan. 2, Sark replaced Herman as the next Texas head coach, and the fourth in the last decade.
