Texas Football: Predicting next transfer addition after Devin Richardson
It appears that the Texas football program is starting to round out the look of their roster in 2021 through a combination of retroactive additions to their 2021 recruiting class and the NCAA Transfer Portal at this point of the offseason. New head coach Steve Sarkisian got his latest addition out of the transfer portal for Texas on the late morning of April 25.
That aforementioned latest addition out of the transfer portal for Sark and the Longhorns this offseason came via the former New Mexico State Aggies standout redshirt sophomore linebacker and underrated three-star recruit Devin Richardson. As the third (or fourth depending on how you classify things) addition out of the transfer portal at the linebacker position for Texas this offseason, the depth need is getting filled of late.
Other additions pertaining to this position group for the Longhorns out of the portal this offseason are senior linebacker Ray Thornton, junior edge rusher sociologist Oghoufo, and potentially even senior Ben Davis. But we don’t know for sure yet if Davis will come through with his commitment, although it looks like he will.
What’s next for Texas football in the portal after getting Devin Richardson?
The Longhorns remained very busy in the transfer portal this offseason amid a few months filled with roster attrition. While the roster turnover wasn’t as great as many first anticipated with a complete change in coaching regime for the Longhorns this offseason, they still had a plethora of positional needs to fill in some regard.
Texas still might not be done in the transfer portal this offseason, but it does certainly feel like they are getting close to piecing together a complete roster this year after landing Richardson. This is a nice get for Texas, and the first from the Group of Five and/or FCS ranks for them this offseason.
With all of this in mind, here’s a look into who could be the next transfer portal addition for the Longhorns this offseason.
