One of the hotter names going around the Forty Acres at the moment in terms of who the program could get next out of the transfer portal is the former Vanderbilt Commodores underrated three-star recruit and 5-foot-10 and 190 pound freshman safety Donovan Kaufman. Texas did sustain some heavy losses at the safety position so far this offseason.

Texas saw the likes of the former elite five-star recruit and junior talented safety Caden Sterns and senior safety Chris Brown leave for the 2021 NFL Draft. And Texas lost former four-star recruit and freshman safety Xavion Alford to the transfer portal. Alford wound up taking his talents to join head coach Clay Helton and the USC Trojans.

Kaufman is starting to get a lot of attention from around the college football landscape out of the portal right now. A lot of that attention is coming from other SEC schools, including the Auburn Tigers and LSU Tigers. Texas looks to play a role in where Kaufman ultimately takes his talents to next, though.

In just two games played with the Commodores last season, Kaufman registered 15 combined tackles, no tackles for loss, no sacks, no interceptions, and one pass breakup. Kaufman was also a solid weapon in the return game for Vanderbilt last season. Most of his production for Vanderbilt last season wound up coming in an eventual loss to LSU, where he had more than 100 total return yards, 10 combined tackles, and one pass breakup.
