On the late morning of April 26, redshirt sophomore Texas football wide receiver/tight end Malcolm Epps announced that he would be putting his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal. The announcement came on the Twitter timeline of Epps on April 26 that he would be entering the transfer market after spending the last three seasons on the Forty Acres.

This does come as a bit of a surprise for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns since Epps looked to be a rather big part of the offense that offers a lot of versatility. Epps got reps both at tight end and wide receiver over the course of the last three seasons. And he looked to fill an important role for Sark and new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood in 2021.

As I’ve mentioned before, although there are never any guarantees that a player like Epps will leave the Forty Acres for good, this likely isn’t a good sign for the retention of depth in their tight end room/receiving corps. Texas is going to be a bit shy most likely at tight end for the fall.

Where Epps takes his talents to next is a good question. He was a highly-touted four-star tight end recruit coming out of Dekaney High School in Houston, TX, back during the 2018 recruiting cycle. He ranked as the nation’s No. 227 2018 high school prospect, No. 10 tight end, and No. 29 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).

With all of this in mind, here’s a look into three good landing spots for Epps out of the portal this offseason.
