Texas Football: 4-Star WR C.J. Williams a major post-spring target
The action on the trail for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class is about to pick back up after the conclusion of spring camp. Texas fans got to see their team take the field for some type of game action at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for the first time since last November over the weekend.
And a big weekend it was for Sark and the Longhorns to resume building out the roster by way of the recruiting trail and the NCAA Transfer Portal. Texas got a big-time commitment out of the transfer portal on the morning of April 25 from the former New Mexico State Aggies standout redshirt sophomore linebacker Devin Richardson.
But the biggest addition for the Longhorns over the weekend came courtesy of the former Michigan Wolverines Central East four-star wide receiver commit Xavier Worthy giving his pledge to Texas on the afternoon of April 24. Worthy requested a release from his LOI with Michigan a few weeks back, giving way for Sark to pave the path to get this retroactive addition to his 2021 class.
And one of the newer targets up for Sark and the Longhorns that could continue to add depth at the wide receiver position in the 2022 class is the touted four-star 6-foot-2 and 195 pound Mater Dei product C.J. Williams. This talented and potent California native would be able to add to the elite foundation that the Longhorns are building at wide receiver in their 2022 class.
C.J. Williams hitting the forefront for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class
Texas sent a scholarship offer Williams’ way back in January, just after the hire of Sark. The Longhorns weren’t really looking into Williams when Tom Herman was head coach. But now Sark and second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman are prioritizing the recruitment of Williams.
Texas now appears to be one of the frontrunners emerging for Williams at this point of his recruitment. They are now one of a whopping nearly 50 schools on Williams’ lengthy offer sheet.
Some of the other notable schools that have offered Williams include the Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon Ducks, Stanford Cardinal, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.
Moreover, Williams ranks as the nation’s No. 72 2022 high school prospect, No. 9 wide receiver, and No. 7 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 47 high school prospect, No. 6 wide receiver, and No. 3 prospect out of California.
There aren’t any expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions in yet as of the morning of April 26 showing where he could be leaning for his commitment. The Rivals FutureCast also doesn’t have any of their analysts and publishers giving a prediction for Williams’ commitment as of yet.
It is worth watching to see if the Longhorns are able to get an official visit scheduled this offseason for Williams. He does already have two official visits scheduled once the dead period lifts this summer. The first comes with head coach Brian Kelly in South Bend, IN, on June 5. And then the following weekend, Ohio State and head coach Ryan Day will host an official visit with Williams on June 11.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 9 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas now holds commitments from seven prospects in their 2022 class, with the highest-rated being the elite four-star Klein Cain running back Jaydon Blue.
