Texas Basketball: 3 reasons DeVante Jones should choose Longhorns
One of the most highly anticipated commitments out of the NCAA Transfer Portal for any team around the college hoops landscape is coming up this weekend. On May 1, former Coastal Carolina Chanticleers star guard DeVante Jones is set to announce his transfer destination. And Texas basketball is one of the finalists that could get the commitment of Jones out of the transfer portal this coming weekend.
New head coach Chris Beard and the Longhorns have built out a solid roster that is going to look a lot different next season. So far, Beard and the Longhorns have landed commitments from four players out of the transfer portal. And all bring a lot of versatility and value to the table right away for this program.
The four additions out of the portal so far this offseason for Beard and the Longhorns are the former Utah Utes junior forward Timmy Allen, Creighton Blue Jays junior forward Christian Bishop, Kentucky Wildcats freshman guard Devin Askew, and Vanderbilt Commodores sophomore forward Dylan Disu. The latter of those four transfer portal additions was the most recent for the Longhorns.
Who’s Texas basketball’s competition to land DeVante Jones?
The reported finalist schools for Jones when he announces his commitment decision out of the portal this coming weekend include the Michigan Wolverines, Memphis Tigers, Longhorns, and Texas Tech Red Raiders. It somewhat comes full circle for Beard to compete with his former employer Texas Tech for such a big transfer candidate in Jones.
Jones would be the second addition to the Longhorns backcourt rotation out of the portal this offseason if he were to land on the Forty Acres this coming weekend. With that in mind, here’s a look into three reasons why Jones should commit to the Longhorns.
