Build something special under Chris Beard

This might be the most important reason why Beard had so much success out of the transfer portal so far this offseason. The former Texas Tech head coach proved during his time in Lubbock that he can win under most any circumstances. If he can do the same on the Forty Acres, then Texas is set to regularly compete for a Big 12 Championship year in and year out.

It does feel like Beard has found the right landing spot to really launch his career on the national stage. Texas Tech was clearly a national contender in most seasons under Beard’s direction. They were an overtime away from beating the Virginia Cavaliers two years ago to win their first National Championship as a Big 12 school.

Beard could also be a good head coach to continue to develop Jones’ skill set as he tries to get a major conference title and a National Championship. This head coach also has the proven resume of developing NBA talent in his backcourt and wing rotations during his time at Texas Tech. Jones likely is hoping to take his talents to the next level at some point in the near future.

Two of the four finalist schools that Jones has ready for his commitment decision this coming weekend are breaking in new coaching regimes. And Michigan and Memphis both have relatively new coaching staffs. In terms of the combination of coaching stability and the national prominence of a program, Michigan and Texas might be the two most potent options for Jones.
