The start of day one of the 2021 NFL Draft is now roughly 24 hours away, and football fans around the country can rejoice as the wait is about to be over. One of the biggest events of the football offseason at any level is the NFL Draft, and there’s a good number of players out of the Texas football program that could be picked this year.

And one of those Texas Exes that could be picked in the early to middle rounds of the 2021 draft is the former star senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding the draft stock of the multiple-time All-Big 12 signal caller. He could go as early as round two or three, or he could fall off draft boards late in day three. It’s hard to tell how to pinpoint his draft stock even so close to the first day of the festivities.

There has to be a lot of Longhorns fans that want to see Ehlinger land with a team like the Dallas Cowboys or Kansas City Chiefs, where he could be put in a very opportune spot right away. But one of the latest mock drafts ahead of the start of day one of draft night on April 29 had Ehlinger landing with the defending Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Where former Texas football QB Sam Ehlinger could be drafted?

In a full seven-round mock draft from Chad Reuter of NFL.com on April 23, the Buccaneers were projected to pick Ehlinger with their 176th overall pick in the fourth round. In this same mock draft, former Texas junior safety and elite five-star recruit Caden Sterns was picked up by the Arizona Cardinals with the 160th overall pick in the fourth round.

If Sam were to land with the defending Super Bowl Champion Bucs in the draft, then he would get the opportunity to back up the greatest quarterback of all-time Tom Brady. The former Michigan Wolverine and longtime New England Patriots legendary signal caller Brady doesn’t really have a solidified backup at the moment.

That is a role that the Bucs might try and fill through the draft. Brady won’t be around forever, and it would be an incredible chance for Ehlinger to get to develop behind him on such a talented team.

The current backup for the Bucs is the former Tulane Green Wave quarterback Ryan Griffin. That is about all that the Bucs have at the moment. This could be Ehlinger’s chance to really make an impact at the next level if this mock draft were to come to fruition and he was picked by the Bucs.
