Buckley was one of two key Aggies veteran players that put his name in the transfer portal this week. The other was the former highly touted four-star recruit and redshirt junior safety Derrick Tucker. The former Manvel High School product and Texas native Tucker was a coveted recruit back during the 2017 cycle for both the Aggies and Longhorns.

But it was ultimately the Aggies coaching staff that won the battle to land the commitment of Tucker when it was all said and done over the Longhorns. At the time, it was former Texas assistants Jason Washington and Corby Meekins that were pursuing Tucker.

Now Texas could have the chance to fill a potential depth hole at the safety position by landing a commitment from Tucker out of the portal. There just are not all that many safeties currently available in the portal with proven Power Five success and overall game experience like Tucker. That could be big for the Longhorns were they to nab him this offseason.

In bits and pieces of three years playing for Texas A&M, Tucker registered 84 combined tackles, one tackle for loss, no sacks, one interception (which he returned for a touchdown), five pass breakups, one forced fumble, and no fumble recoveries.

If the Longhorns and new defensive backs coach Terry Joseph were able to recapture the production and efficiency that Tucker showed for the Aggies during his true freshman campaign in 2017, he would be a fantastic addition to this secondary.
