Texas Football: 5 early top Longhorns for the 2022 NFL Draft
DeMarvion Overshown
The biggest threat at the moment to end the drought of first-round draft picks in the NFL among Longhorns is the former elite five-star safety recruit and potent senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. The converted linebacker and potential leader of this front seven in 2021 did miss spring ball due to injury.
But it shouldn’t be long before Overshown is back in the mix making a big impact for this Longhorns defense. If Overshown can show this fall that he is capable of leading a defensive scheme and personnel transition the magnitude of what they are going through right now on this side of the ball, his draft stock could skyrocket.
At 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, and with insane athleticism for a linebacker that fits amazingly in the modern game at the next level, scouts have to be dripping at the mouth about the promise that Overshown exudes. What Overshown has to prove to NFL scouts is that he can continue to round out his game after making the position switch a couple of years ago, and he can clean up the missed tackles.
The proven production is clearly there for Overshown, with 79 combined tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss, three sacks, three interceptions, 10 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. And all that production came in just 16 games played in the last three seasons.
His ability to pressure the quarterback, set the edge defending the run, cover the field sideline-to-sideline, and draw turnovers when dropping back in pass coverage, all make Overshown a really special talent that has a lot of potential at the next level.
