Baylor

What seemed to be the program second in line to land a commitment from the former Melissa High School wideout Lewis was the Baylor Bears and former head coach Matt Rhule. But it was a much different Baylor coaching staff that pursued Lewis out of high school than they have at the helm this year.

Rhule is now the head coach of the Carolina Panthers in the NFL, and former Baylor offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon (who was the assistant specifically pursuing Lewis during his recruitment) is also on his staff.

Nonetheless, Baylor is still a program that has had to hit the transfer portal hard in recent years. The roster attrition for second-year head coach and former LSU Tigers defensive coordinator Dave Aranda isn’t as bad this offseason as it was last, but this is still a potential landing spot worth watching.

Baylor was one of nearly 30 schools to send Lewis a scholarship offer during his recruitment. That doesn’t mean nothing when a school like that is pursuing Lewis out of the portal.

Baylor did lose two players in their receiving corps to the transfer portal this offseason and landed one in return. Former Dartmouth wideout Drew Estrada will be joining the Bears as a graduate transfer this year.

Lewis might be that final piece that could complete the Baylor receiving corps out of the transfer portal this offseason. Watch out for the Bears to be a potential favorite emerging landing spot for Lewis.
