Texas Football: 3 best Kennedy Lewis transfer landing spots
Florida Atlantic
A particular landing spot that would be very interesting for Lewis out of the transfer portal this offseason would be with former Florida State Seminoles and Oregon Ducks head coach Willie Taggart and the Florida Atlantic Owls. Lewis would be able to link back up with the Texas assistant coach that recruited him out of high school in Drew Mehringer.
Early this offseason, the Owls lost a ton of skill position talent to the transfer portal and replenishing it was a difficult feat so far for this coaching staff. Since Lewis has a tight connection with one particular assistant on this staff of Taggart’s, using that relationship to get some benefit out of the portal might be the way this program goes in the near future.
FAU is a program that is in a critical spot this fall, as they look to get back on the pace they were at under the direction of former head coach Lane Kiffin (now with the Ole Miss Rebels in the SEC West). They finished up last season with a record of 5-4 (4-2 C-USA), which could be better in 2020 depending on how the roster construction goes for the rest of the offseason.
Lewis might find it to be a better option out of the portal this offseason to take his talents to a Group of Five program next. The ability to make an immediate impact might be felt more so at a program like FAU instead of one like Baylor or Texas. It’s hard to tell where Lewis is leaning at the moment, but this might turn out to be a viable landing spot for him.
