Texas Football: 3 players whose stock is up post-spring
Roschon Johnson, RB
There will be a lot less roster attrition at the running back position this offseason than most other position groups for the Longhorns. Running back returns the top two producers from last season on the Forty Acres. Really the lone significant loss was junior running back Keaontay Ingram, who landed with head coach Clay Helton and the USC Trojans after he put his name in the portal more than three months ago.
One Texas running back that is somehow still underrated this offseason for the Longhorns is the former four-star dual-threat quarterback recruit and junior standout Roschon Johnson. The Texas native is now heading into his third year since making the position switch from quarterback to running back. And it’s gone very well for him and the team thus far.
The sizable 6-foot-2 and 230 pound Johnson was a steady hand for the Longhorns ground game in each of the past two seasons. And the same should be said if he’s able to stay healthy once again this fall.
Johnson brings back with him nearly 1,300 total yards from scrimmage from the past two years with the Longhorns, along with 15 total touchdowns and more than five yards per carry.
A model of efficiency and consistency is what Johnson brought to the table for the Longhorns in spring ball, and he’ll be a key voice in the locker room throughout the rest of the offseason. He helped newer faces in the running back room, like early enrolled and former four-star recruit Jonathon Brooks and 2020 graduate transfer Gabriel Watson, get accustomed to things this spring.
