More of a quiet period for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class ended roughly one week ago, post-spring game. Over the weekend where the Orange-White Game occurred, Texas caught a real spark both out of the NCAA Transfer Portal and on the recruiting trail.

Sark and the Longhorns got their latest pickup for their 2022 class in the form of the coveted four-star Brophy College Prep strong-side defensive end Zac Swanson. The commitment from Swanson landed with the Longhorns 2022 class on April 26.

More could be to come for the Longhorns 2022 class in the near future with official visit season set to resume around the college football recruiting landscape in less than one month. Texas has multiple key visits in line for the summer, which could help continue to build the 2022 class.

A newer name to watch on the recruiting trail that is a target of the 2022 class is the talented four-star IMG Academy 5-foot-11 and 220 pound running back Kaytron Allen. The Florida native has a lot of attention coming from top schools around the country, and he already has an offer from the Longhorns.

Texas football’s increasing pursuit of RB Kaytron Allen

Texas sent their scholarship offer to Allen out roughly 15 months ago, so they were one of the earlier programs looking his way on the recruiting trail. They don’t have an official visit scheduled yet with Allen, but that is something to watch in the near future.

The lone school that has offered Allen that has a visit scheduled with him for the summer is the Florida Gators, which is in line for June 11.

Texas and Florida are now two of more than 30 schools that have offered Allen as of the morning of May 4. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet include the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Maryland Terrapins, Ohio State Buckeyes, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC Trojans.

Texas currently has running backs coach Stan Drayton and Brandon Harris after Allen on the recruiting trail. Drayton is doing really well recruiting at the running back position for the last few cycles, including landing four-star 2022 Klein Cain product Jaydon Blue, 2020 five-star Salpointe Catholic product Bijan Robinson, and five-star 2023 El Campo product Rueben Owens.

Allen is one of a few key running back targets remaining for the Longhorns at this point in time for their 2022 class. Blue is the lone running back commit in the 2022 class, but Sark and Drayton might try to add one more.

Moreover, Allen ranks as the nation’s No. 124 2022 high school prospect, No. 9 running back, and No. 16 prospect out of Florida (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 151 high school prospect, No. 12 running back, and No. 18 prospect out of Florida.

Blue is the highest-rated commit in the Longhorns 2022 class at the moment, and Swanson is the most recent to join the mix.
