Top Big 12 football QB prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft
Brock Purdy, Iowa State
If he had decided to take his talents to the NFL this year, then the Iowa State Cyclones senior star quarterback Brock Purdy likely could’ve fallen as a day two pick, maybe early day three. Purdy now has multiple seasons under his belt as a proven starting quarterback in a system that is more closely tied to NFL offenses than most other Big 12 programs.
Iowa State is bringing back a really potent offense in 2021, led by two potential day one or day two picks in the 2022 draft in Purdy and star running back Breece Hall. Each of those two Cyclones players are some of the top 2022 draft prospects at their respective positions.
The 6-foot-1 and 215 pound Purdy has captivated NFL scouts and fans alike with his ability to elude the pocket, make throws on the run, and keep a remarkably consistent completion percentage throughout his career in Ames. Purdy has registered at least a 65.5 completion percentage in each of his three years playing for Iowa State.
There are inadvertent throws that Purdy can make at times, which caused him to tie a career-high with nine interceptions (which set the highest touchdown/interception ratio of his career) last season. But the overall arm strength, the versatility of Purdy’s throwing and dissecting ability real-time, and his escapability all make him an attractive NFL prospect if he comes out in 2022.
WIth what NFL scouts look for nowadays out of a quarterback that can throw on the run and elude opposing pass rushers, such as Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson, etc., is what could also be appealing in regard to Purdy.
