Top Big 12 football QB prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft
Spencer Rattler, Oklahoma
At least at this moment, the top quarterback prospect out of the Big 12 in the projected 2022 draft class is the former elite five-star recruit and redshirt sophomore star signal caller Spencer Rattler. The ultra-elusive and promising 6-foot-1 and 205 pound Rattler is one of the most gifted prospects at his position in the 2022 draft class if he declares early next year.
Rattler could be a rare breed for head coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners considering he was not a transfer quarterback that Oklahoma slotted into their offense right away. That’s what Riley did with eventual NFL quarterbacks like Jalen Hurts, Kyler Murray, and Baker Mayfield in the past. But there’s a good chance that Rattler could turn out better than all of them at the next level.
While Shough does have an incredible amount of raw arm talent, Rattler likely has more. And if he shows out well this fall, then Rattler could very well wind up as the top quarterback prospect in the 2022 draft class. He just has to continue to get better with his key in-game decision-making, and with hitting on the intermediate routes consistently.
Last season, Rattler registered a completion percentage north of 67.0, more than 3,000 passing yards, 10.3 adjusted yards per passing attempt, 28 passing touchdowns, and just seven picks. And he rushed for 160 yards and six scores on the ground. He’s a truly talented quarterback in almost every sense, and he already projects as a top-five pick in the 2022 draft.
