Once again, the NCAA Transfer Portal is a storyline that is coming to the forefront for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program this offseason. Texas has multiple additions out of the transfer portal so far this offseason, and more could be on the way in the near future.
Sark and the Longhorns landed their latest commitment out of the transfer portal during the weekend of the spring football game last month, in the form of the former New Mexico State Aggies standout redshirt sophomore linebacker Devin Richardson. The commitment of the former Freshman All-American Richardson was one of quite a few additions to the front seven out of the transfer portal in the last few months alone.
Richardson joins a list that also includes former LSU Tigers senior linebacker Ray Thornton, Notre Dame Fighting Irish junior defensive end/edge rusher Ovie Oghoufo, and Alabama Crimson Tide senior linebacker Ben Davis, as key additions out of the portal that play in the front seven. Texas also got a key commitment and signing out of the portal last year in former McNeese State Cowboys graduate transfer cornerback Darion Dunn.
Next focus for Texas football in the transfer portal in May
While Texas could look to continue to bolster the front seven out of the portal this offseason, the attention will now likely turn to other position groups. The secondary was a key point of emphasis in the portal throughout most of the offseason to date. And that should continue ahead of the start of summer workouts.
Who could be up next for the Longhorns out of the transfer portal this offseason? Here’s a look into three important names to watch in the portal as potential Longhorns targets in the month of May.
