A spike in activity of late for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class and for new head coach Steve Sarkisian out of the NCAA Transfer Portal could continue on into the start of official visit season next month. Official visits are set to resume around the college football recruiting landscape on June 1, which will be the first time that happens since the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given all of the change that has occurred for the Longhorns, especially with the coaching staff turnover this offseason, it is important to make the best impact possible once official visits resume. Sark and the Longhorns did well to hold this roster together up to this point of the offseason.

Texas has already configured a lot of their roster by way of the transfer portal for the 2021 season. But truly figuring out the path of the Longhorns program under Sark’s direction will start with the 2022 recruiting class.

Who’s in the Texas football recruiting spotlight for May?

As of the early afternoon of May 7, Texas has eight commits in their 2022 class and one in their 2023 class. The latest addition to the 2022 class came in the form of the four-star Brophy College Prep strong-side defensive end Zac Swanson late last month.

And the lone commitment in the Longhorns 2023 class at this point in time is the elite five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens. But more action could be coming for the 2023 class in the near future. Texas has a lot of potential for each recruiting cycle with the way things are building now.
