Texas Football: 3 players whose stock is down post-spring
Brayden Liebrock, TE
It was not all that long ago that one of the biggest parts of a signing class for the Longhorns was the highly coveted four-star recruit and sophomore tight end Brayden Liebrock. Hurdles on the depth chart, and nagging injury issues, have prevented the still young Liebrock from making much of an impact on the field for the Longhorns in the past two years.
Texas saw a lot of new faces in the tight end room step up in the spring spotlight for Sark and new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood. Tight end is going to be an important part of the offensive transition from the Herman and Mike Yurcich scheme, to what Sark is going to draw up this year.
An improved blocking game will be key for the Longhorns to make some significant strides in the next couple of years.
Moreover, Liebrock wasn’t able to participate in spring ball for the Longhorns, thus he likely lost some ground in the tight end room early in the offseason. And given that he has only been on the field for less than 50 snaps in regular season game action for the Longhorns in the last two years, Liebrock still has a long way to go to prove himself.
At this point of the offseason, Liebrock might now have four players in front of him on the tight end depth chart. Early enrollees from the 2021 signing class in Juan Davis and Gunnar Helm had strong showings during the spring and might be ahead of him in the pecking order at the position. That’s not to mention that senior Cade Brewer and junior Jared Wiley are coming back in 2021.
Liebrock will find it challenging to get much action on the field this fall, unless he has a huge breakthrough throughout the rest of the offseason.
