For the second time in his college career to date, the now former Pitt Panthers and Minnesota Golden Gophers senior guard Marcus Carr has put his name in the transfer portal. Carr spent the first year of his college career with Pitt in the ACC before hitting the transfer market. He then took his talents to join Minnesota following the conclusion of the 2017-18 season.

Carr played for the Golden Gophers for the last two seasons, and he became one of the more productive and efficient guards in the entirety of the Big Ten. In fact, Carr got his first career All-Big Ten Team nod last season.

In 29 games played last season with the Golden Gophers, Carr averaged a career-best 19.4 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.1 blocks. And he shot 38.5 percent from the field, 31.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 79.9 percent from the free-throw line.

If Beard and the Longhorns buy into the ability of Carr to bring an efficient volume scoring presence to the backcourt rotation in the near future, then he could be a really good transfer portal target. But if the fit isn’t right for Carr, then it could make for a volatile situation if he joined a rotation that also features Andrew Jones, Courtney Ramey, and now Askew.

But Carr is a solid two-way guard that has a skill set that has fit into Beard-type schemes in the past. Even last season, Texas Tech had former transfer volume scoring guard Mac McClung have a career year under Beard’s guidance.
