A very busy offseason so far for the Texas basketball program has resulted in what will be a completely new-looking team for the 2021-22 campaign. And with former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Chris Beard taking over in the same role with the Texas men’s hoops program, there is a lot of optimism building on the Forty Acres about what’s to come in the near future.

Beard and the Longhorns had a busy month of April, but May has seen the overall news cycle and roster attrition slow down a good bit. Texas had four key additions out of the NCAA Transfer Portal last month, but none so far through the month of May. There are still roster spots to fill for Beard and the Longhorns heading into the summer months.

But this is a good time to reflect on the roster that the Longhorns built thus far, and how that could fit into the bigger picture for the complete construction of the team for the 2021-22 season. Texas does have a promising outlook for next season but needs to finish out the offseason on a good note.

New direction emerging for the Texas basketball program

At this point of the offseason, we’re taking a step back from speculating on who could be next for the Longhorns out of the transfer portal or on the recruiting trail for their hoops program. And instead, we’re taking a look at what is actually coming into the program by way of those two outlets for the looming 2021-22 campaign.

Between the recruiting trail and transfer portal, the Longhorns have five additions to the program that should be ready to go as soon as the start of next season.

With all of this in mind, here’s a look at three of the most exciting new additions to the Longhorns hoops program so far this offseason.
