At this point, the lone signee in the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class is the former Texas Tech commit and elite four-star John Paull II 6-foot-6 and 185 pound small forward Jaylon Tyson. This is a nice get that will form a new strength in the wing/forward rotation.

If the Longhorns are going to get another signing class with just one addition to the program, they did well to land the Plano, TX, native Tyson. This uber-talented in-state product Tyson was a big-time get for the Longhorns that can help fill a need right away.

Texas is getting back the likes of junior guard Courtney Ramey, redshirt junior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones, and sharpshooting senior guard Jase Febres, for next season, but Tyson can be a guy they can pass the torch to. The wing rotation will be thinning out at least a bit, and Tyson is a switchable player that could be utilized really well by a head coach like Beard.

With Tyson taking his commitment to follow Beard from Lubbock to Austin, it’s clear that he buys into this system.

Tyson ranked as the nation’s No. 29 2021 high school prospect, No. 8 small forward, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked him as the nation’s No. 32 high school prospect, No. 7 small forward, and No. 3 prospect out of Texas.

Since Texas lost every single one of their previous commits/signees from their 2021 class after the departure of Smart to become the next head coach of the Marquette Golden Eagles, flipping Tyson was huge.
