Texas Basketball: 3 new additions the Longhorns should be excited about
Dylan Disu, PF
Landing a commitment from the former Vanderbilt Commodores standout 6-foot-9 and 220 pound sophomore power forward and talented four-star recruit Dylan Disu brings a lot more obvious value to the table than landing someone like Askew. Disu has the numbers to back up how valuable he was for Vanderbilt, despite running into injury problems in his career at times.
Yet, Beard and the Longhorns are clearly going to need someone like Disu who can make a big immediate impact in the frontcourt rotation on both ends of the floor. Disu might also be able to fill a starting spot right away for the Longhorns. He was a stud whenever called upon for the Commodores in the last two seasons.
We can’t overlook just how big it was for Texas to get Disu so quickly out of the transfer portal this offseason. He’s going to be just as good, if not better, for the Longhorns than he was for the Commodores in the first two years of his college career.
The Pflugerville, TX, native Disu was one of the most efficient big men in the SEC last season. He was sensational for Vanderbilt in the 17 games he did play in. And Disu averaged 15.0 points per game, 9.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks. He shot 49.2 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.6 percent from the free-throw line.
The advanced metrics do a really good job illustrating just how effective Disu was for the Commodores last season. He ranked among the top 10 players in the SEC in box plus/minus rating (6.3), player efficiency rating (23.7), and win shares per 40 minutes (.171) among eligible players last season.
