This was a very busy offseason in the NCAA Transfer Portal thus far for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program. Texas had numerous entrants into the transfer portal, and also a number of additions to the program by way of that route. Sark was almost guaranteed to at least face a good level of roster attrition this offseason.

What was surprising was that the level of roster attrition that Sark faced so far in his first offseason with the Longhorns wasn’t actually all that bad. Texas has lost a few key players to the transfer portal, but most of them were younger and less proven.

Among those transfer portal losses that are recognizable names, all that are worth noting were really junior running back Keaontay Ingram, junior cornerback Jalen Green, and sophomore cornerback Kenyatta Watson II, redshirt sophomore tight end Malcolm Epps, junior linebacker Juwan Mitchell, and freshman quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson. But a lot of those are losses that the Longhorns will be able to make up for in the end.

Some of the more notable additions for the Longhorns out of the transfer portal so far this offseason include former Notre Dame Fighting Irish edge rusher Ovie Oghoufo, LSU Tigers linebacker Ray Thornton, Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Ben Davis, and McNeese State cornerback Darion Dunn. The time for Texas to fill their depth needs out of the portal this offseason might not be close to done either.

Texas just wrapped up spring ball back on April 24, and the start of summer workouts and fall camp will be here in no time. That doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for Sark to pull his roster together for his first regular season as head coach on the Forty Acres.

With that in mind, which former elite five-star recruits could Sark and the Longhorns turn to out of the transfer portal for the remainder of the offseason?
