Texas football and Texas A&M are ‘on top’ to land 5-Star OT Kelvin Banks
Among the most hotly discussed targets of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class at the moment is the elite five-star Summer Creek 6-foot-5 and 300 pound offensive tackle Kelvin Banks. New Texas offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood is still trying to land his first commitment in the 2022 class after joining new head coach Steve Sarkisian earlier in the offseason.
Flood and Sark are both former assistants on staff with legendary head coach Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide prior to becoming mainstays with the Longhorns coaching staff. And each was a recruiting ace in their time with the Crimson Tide on staff.
Moreover, it is largely up to Flood to be able to win over the commitment of the Humble, TX, native Banks when it’s all said and done. He and fellow former Alabama assistant/new Texas special teams coordinator Jeff Banks are the primary recruiters pursuing Banks on the trail.

According to a report from Horns247 on May 12 (paid content), Texas and the in-state rival Texas A&M Aggies are the two schools on top in pursuit of Banks’ commitment at the moment. The former Oklahoma State Cowboys commit looks to really have four schools in the mix right now.
The recruitment of Banks should largely come down to Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, and the LSU Tigers. Alabama and the Oregon Ducks could be two other schools to watch in pursuit of Banks in the near future.
Those six schools are roughly one-quarter of what makes up Banks’ offer sheet. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet are the Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Oklahoma Sooners, TCU Horned Frogs, Baylor Bears, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and USC Trojans.
The five schools that do have official visits scheduled this summer with Banks are Oklahoma State, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU. The reported top two schools in contention for Banks (Texas and Texas A&M) get visits from Banks on back-to-back weekends in mid-to-late June.
With Texas specifically, Banks has his official visit scheduled for June 18. Texas A&M is his final official visit scheduled at the moment, set for June 24.
As of the afternoon of May 12, the outlook for where Banks’ commitment will land when it’s all said and done is all over the place.

And the Rivals FutureCast has most of their analysts and publishers picking the commitment of Banks to land with Texas A&M over Texas and the rest of the field.
It looks like a large portion of Banks’ commitment will come down to how official visits go this summer. The obvious is stated when you say that the impression that the trio of Sark, Flood, and Banks are able to make is extremely impactful with Banks.
