A busy time of year for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class is officially underway. Texas has official visit season looming just around the corner and the impacts that the coaching staff can make on top targets will largely determine how this 2022 class shapes out.

A lot of the top targets of new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns 2022 class have yet to officially visit the school. The wake of the COVID-19 pandemic over the last 15 months pretty much placed all official visits during the offseason on pause.

Texas found a nice spark on the recruiting trail after Sark was hired to be the next head coach to replace the departed Tom Herman back on Jan. 2. All but one of the commits in the Longhorns 2022 class joined the mix after Sark took over as head coach.

Building blocks for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class

At the moment, Texas doesn’t officially hold a commitment from a five-star prospect in their 2022 class. Talented four-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy was dropped in the recruiting rankings earlier in the offseason. That also dropped him down from a five-star prospect to four.

As of the afternoon of May 13, the highest-rated of the eight commits in the Longhorns 2022 class is the four-star Klein Cain running back Jaydon Blue. And according to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. The most recent commit in the 2022 class came from four-star Brophy College Prep strong-side defensive end Zac Swanson.

Who could be the first official five-star commit in the Longhorns 2022 class? It might not be too long before we find out with official visit season just around the corner.
