Texas Football: 3 big QB transfer portal targets to watch this offseason
Up to this point of the offseason, not much discussion loomed concerning the Texas football program and the pursuit of quarterbacks out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. While new head coach Steve Sarkisian did lose former senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger to the NFL Draft this year, there is still a plethora of young talent present with the program.
Sark and the Longhorns look to have a quarterback competition taking place between a pair of former blue chip recruits. Redshirt junior Casey Thompson and sophomore Hudson Card look to be the two signal callers that Sark will have to decide between.
However, new names could come to the forefront if the Longhorns decide to hit the transfer portal to add more depth to the quarterback room. Texas doesn’t have any proven quarterback depth beyond Thompson and Card, though.

And it’s difficult to say that the Longhorns can even be confident about the game action that both Thompson and Card have under their belt. The most exposure that Thompson had in one game came when the Longhorns were already up on the Colorado Buffaloes in the Alamo Bowl back on Dec. 29.
The problem that Texas could face when considering quarterbacks out of the transfer portal at this point of the offseason is that most big names have already found their next landing spot. But a few key names do remain that could be worth watching from here on out.
Here’s a look at three potential quarterback targets to watch for the Longhorns out of the portal this offseason.
