The big man that is likely the most realistic and impactful addition out of the transfer portal for the Longhorns to replace Greg Brown is the former UMass Minutemen talented four-star recruit and sophomore center Tre Mitchell. The 6-foot-9 and 240 pound big man got even better for UMass last season after having a solid true freshman campaign two years back.

This Pittsburgh, PA, native and Woodstock Academy product is also a two-time All-Atlantic 10 Team selection and was the 2019-20 Atlantic 10 Newcomer of the Year.

In just 13 games played with UMass last season, Mitchell averaged 18.8 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.5 blocks. And he shot 51.9 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 76.8 percent from the free-throw line.

It was Mitchell registering a sparkling 8.3 box plus/minus rating, .215 win shares per 40 minutes, 61.3 true shooting percentage, and a 26.8 player efficiency rating, that really impressed last season.

There is good news that surfaced for the Longhorns in pursuit of the commitment of Mitchell. He reportedly named Texas among his top six schools for his commitment decision out of the transfer portal this week.

If Texas is going to lose a standout trio that includes senior big man Jericho Sims, sophomore power forward Kai Jones, and Greg Brown to the NBA Draft this offseason, landing a commitment from Mitchell could become critical.
